About Zuujit
The seeds of Zuujit were planted when founder Tyler Gildred attended his first public auction in 2004. Although he
didn’t
know it at the time, he was about to embark on journey that would end with the creation of a revolutionary
product; elegant in
it’s simplicity, yet powerful in it’s execution and functionality. In short, a product that would
empower anyone selling products online.
Although his initial plan that day was to simply buy a band saw, Gildred ended up acquiring
an entire warehouse full of industrial and automotive products at a bargain basement price,
with the intention of listing everything on eBay to make a quick profit. But the realization
and frustration with the time consuming and tedious process of listing so many products
on the online auction site spurred him into action to streamline the process.
Recognizing opportunity, he formed a new venture,
HalfPrice.net, and soon began
developing an internal system to simplify the selling process. His testing ground was the
selling and shipping of literally thousands of items from their warehouse for eBay auctions
on behalf of early partners such as UC Santa Barbara and Habitat for Humanity.
While searching for a misplaced digital camera in the warehouse one day, inspiration struck Gildred yet again. Why not just use a
web enabled camera phone to list an item? And that’s when he realized that a camera phone with custom software could be the
perfect tool to streamline the tedious listing process! So in 2007, he set out to create that very software.
In less than a year Gildred had developed an early Windows Mobile version of the software to run on the Palm Treo. But with the
launch and immediate success of the Apple iPhone, Gildred recognized that the game-changing device and accompanying App Store
platform would be the perfect ecosystem for Zuujit, and he immediately shifted focus and resources to the then-nascent iPhone.
Since those early days, Gildred’s vision has evolved from a “simple”, handheld eBay selling tool to a rich mobile environment the
enables users to sell products “simply”. Zuujit has literally revolutionized and reinvented the way we think about how we sell
products on the internet.
