eBay Beginner Resources

Zuujit is the fastest, easiest way to sell your items on eBay, whether you're a beginner or an eBay pro. Here are a few eBay tips aimed at the beginner.

eBay Seller Account

Never sold on eBay? (Your buyer's account is separate.)

Even if you use Zuujit, you still need to set up an eBay seller account. During the registration process for Zuujit, we will ask you for your seller account and take you to eBay if you don't have one.

At eBay, you will need to verify your identity with a valid credit card and checking account. If you do not have these, you can use "Verify," a service that charges $5.00 to verify your identity.

eBay Current Top Sellers

Want to know what people are buying. Try eBay Pulse. This is eBay's "daily snapshot of current trends, hot picks, and cool stuff on eBay."

eBay Blogs

You can also get a lot of eBay info from blogs.

Start with the eBay blogs. If you like to use an outside source, try the About eBay Blog.

There are serious tips from eBay Habit and one from Scot Wingo who wrote eBay Strategies and has a blog of the same name.

Newsletter

Another source of info with interesting eBay updates is an eZine called AuctionBytes.com. Sign up for their newsletter for the latest news delivered directly to your email.

Glossary

Active Listing A listing presently up on eBay and available for purchase by eBay buyers.

Auction One of the two options you can choose for selling your item. (The other option is "Fixed Price"; you can also choose both). Multiple buyers are able to bid on the item for a specific number of days. The item will be sold to the bidder with the highest offer price at the close of the auction.

Auction Durations This is the length of time you have the item available for sale on eBay (your "Active Listing"). You can choose from a specified number of duration lengths. Zuujit offers the most common durations of 1, 3, 5, 7 or 10. (Note: eBay charges a small fee for 10-day auctions.)

If you set up an auction as both Fixed Price and Auction without a Reserve Price, the Fixed Price is available only until the first bid is made (the Fixed Price choice disappears from the listing).

If you set up an auction with both Fixed Price and Auction with a Reserve Price, the Fixed Price is available only until the Reserve has been met (and then the Fixed Price choice disappears from the listing).

Calculated Shipping Zuujit can calculate the shipping fee for you if you choose calculated shipping. You will be asked to enter the following info:

  • Weight
  • Type of packaging (large envelope, USPS Priority Flat Rate Box, etc.)
  • Height
  • Length
  • Width

With this information, buyers can enter their zip codes, and find out the exact shipping cost to their destination.

eBay The largest online auction house in the world. Over $1700 worth of goods are traded on eBay every second with over 233,000,000 users worldwide.

Fixed Price One of the two options you can choose for selling your item. (The other option is Auction—you can also choose both). Your item is sold to the first buyer willing to pay the price you have set.

Flat Rate Shipping Flat Rate is a shipping option that designates the same shipping cost to any buyer. As a seller, you specify the shipping rate; the amount you specify should cover both shipping and handling. Shipping insurance is a separate option that can be specified in Zuujit Mobile as well.

Reserve Price (or Reserve) To ensure your item does not sell for less than a desired price, you can set a Reserve Price to the lowest price you are willing to accept for your item. An item that has bids but which has not met the Reserve Price is not considered sold, and the seller is under no obligation to complete the transaction.

Starting Bid The lowest bid that you are willing to accept to open an auction.

Unsold Listing A listing that did not sell by the end of the auction. It can happen if your reserve was not met or no one bid on your auction. You can re-list the item for another auction and can edit the options before you re-list.
